The benefits of having both IPC and Cambridge curriculums

As the first international school in Singapore to offer the future-focused combination of the Cambridge Primary and International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for students ages five to twelve, we have set ourselves apart from other international schools. This novel approach helps The Grange Institution to effectively equip our students with the right aptitude for academic and personal success in their learning journey.

The IPC is a rigorous curriculum where students are engaged in different thematic Units of Learning designed to appeal to their interests and help them to learn more about the world around them. These Units of Learning help students to see how subjects such as Art, Geography, History, ICT and Computing, Music, PE, Science, Society, Technology, Language and Mathematics are both independent and interdependent. This helps them to see the big picture of their learning, make connections across different subjects, and understand topics and issues in the world from multiple perspectives. The ultimate goal is to help students develop a growing sense of international-mindedness.

The renowned Cambridge Primary Curriculum emphasises literacy, comprehension and communication. It is founded on the values of the University of Cambridge and best practices in schools. The curriculum is dedicated to developing learners who are confident, responsible, innovative and engaged. Each curriculum framework for English, Mathematics and Science is designed to engage learners for an active and creative learning journey.

Combined together, these two subject frameworks provide a comprehensive set of progressive learning objectives detailing what the learner should know or what they should be able to do in each year of primary education and provide a structure for teaching and learning. They also provide a reference against which learners’ ability and understanding can be assessed regularly. Students will acquire the essential foundation to access, process, organise, and present their knowledge, skills and understanding in the thematic IPC Units of Learning.

Finally, our specialist subjects complete the future-focused curriculum. A top quality international curriculum encompasses relevant electives to provide students essential knowledge outside of their core subjects. From Arts to Languages, students experience holistic learning at TGI. Not only do we blend academic importance into the curriculum, we see Arts, Languages and Physical Education as important aspects for every child’s learning. We focus heavily on the Learners and the Learning, hence the reason of combining both the IPC and Cambridge curriculum.
